Waste is not waste until you waste it!
Uganda produces 600 tons of plastic waste every single day. Most of the plastic waste comes from the capital city of Kampala where you can find it littered all over the city.
About half of the plastic rubbish in Kampala is left uncollected and ends up in drainage channels, wetlands, natural water sources, manholes, building plots and along every roadside. The problem is not only restricted to urban areas. In the countryside, plastic waste litters fields, where is contaminates the soil, woodlands and bush.
Aweko Faith, a Kampala-based social entrepreneur, is tackling Uganda’s plastic pollution problem head-on. In 2018, she founded Reform Africa, a social enterprise that transforms waste into sustainable, waterproof and durable bags for life.
